Best Photos for Portraits

Getting the right photos are one of the most important parts to a great portrait. I pride myself in being able to capture the essence of my subjects and capturing the detail and distinctive markings that makes them unique and different. Unfortunately with a bad or not so great photo I can only work with what I have, having not met the subject in person and my portrait may not be as detailed as most of my work as I cant get details and markings correctly if I can not see them properly. If this is for a memorial and you don’t have many photos please message me and I can go over them and possibly work something out. I also encourage all of my clients to send as many photos as you can so I have a range to work from. Here are some examples of great quality photos that are the best to work from.

These were all taken on my phone outside in good natural lighting and most phones these days can take high quality photos as long as the lighting is good and taken outside. If you are having trouble getting your subject to sit still or pose for a photo I would suggest finding something that would motivate them/ get their interest. For some that’s food for others a favorite toy or even just your attention.

Here are some examples of not so great photos that are very hard to work from. The first one is in bad lighting and too dark, hard to see the color of the dogs coat very well or details on the face. The second one is taken outside but in shadow and the same thing is happening as in the first photo. And the last photo is missing parts as you can see its partly cropped out and the ears aren’t there either these kinds of photos are very hard to get the pets personality from. If you’re still unsure if your photos are good enough I will be happy to look over them and let you know.
